Shelly Sterling, the wife of embattled Clippers owner Donald Sterling, has responded to the NBA’s decision to charge her husband with damaging the league through his racist remarks, a decision that set in motion a June 3 hearing.
Shelly Sterling, who has a 50 percent ownership stake in the Clippers, has maintained throughout that she stands separate from the comments made by her estranged husband. From the start, she sough distance from Donald Sterling’s racist rampage, in which he criticized his friend, V. Stiviano, for consorting with black people at sporting events.
“We have just received the voluminous charges and are beginning the process of carefully reviewing them,” O’Donnell said in a statement. “Based on our initial assessment, wecontinue to believe there is no lawful basis for stripping Shelly of her 50 percent ownershipinterest in the Clippers.
“She is the innocent estranged spouse. We also continue to hope that we can resolve this dispute with the NBA for the good of all constituencies.”
